Scratch

So Scratch is an online animation programme which allows children and/or adults to create a computer game of their choice. It allows people to create interactive stories and or animations by using coding. Mandy introduced us to Scratch and gave us a step by step guide of how to go about creating our own animation. This took A LOT of getting used to as there are so many different things to consider such as motions, sounds, backgrounds, movements and so on. I start by doing simple coding such as 'when spacebar is clicked, move 10 steps' and slowly but surely I got familiar with the programme and I found myself beginning to enjoy.

This is a video found on the Scratch Website which demonstrates exactly what the programme can allow users to create! Amazing!!

Games Day

So this lesson consisted of us going in to a different classroom to normal in which Mandy had set up 5 different gaming stations. These consisted of:

  • The Wii - Just Dance
  • The Wii Sports
  • Xbox Connect
  • Mystery game on the iPad, and
  • Doctor Who on some big screen/table device

This was a really fun lesson and I really enjoyed the experiences of playing all the different games consoles as gaming isn't really my thing and I had never even played an Xbox before. Playing on the Xbox was definitely the most enjoyable for me mainly because it was active and meant that I had to be fully involved in playing and completing the game. The Doctor Who game was really difficult, the game itself and the device we were playing it on. I got so frustrated that I just gave up in the end as I found that much easier. It was certainly too difficult for children to play where as all the other games and devices, I found, were much easier to use and understand and the concepts of the games were much clearer.

All in all though, I did enjoy this lesson and it was nice to be away from sitting at a desk and doing something practical :D.

I made a gameee :D.

This is a computer game that I created using 2DoIt Yourself which is a computer programme which allows you to create games. I created a game that consisted of a car that had to move around in order to collect coins while following a track that I created.

I edited and created the images and background of the game through the use of following tutorials and by creating my own little photos of the car and flowers, and uploading the photos if the coin from the programme. Generally I found this task quite fun and enjoyable from the beginning, however Stacey and Rhiannon did not seem to have the same feelings as they were getting very frustrated with it but then they got the hang of it.

Here is an example taken off google of what 2DoIt Yourself looks like. I found it very easy to use and I enjoyed it very much.
